April, 2009

HOLY WEEK, 2009. Holy Week is the biggest holiday of the year here in Mexico.

All the schools as well as the government offices are closed for two weeks so everyone in the country goes on a vacation, to visit relatives, to travel, etc. Since 1964 we have always used this time to hold special Holy week services when the brethren from the different churches around the country come in for a time of fellowship and ministry. The convention finally got so large that we had to divide it into four different events, with the people gathering into the place nearest to their region for a time of special services during these days when the entire country is remembering the crucifixion and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here in Durango there will be one conference. About 70 miles north of here there will be another conference. On the west coast there is another conference and in the mountains of Durango, Jerry Witt, III (my grandson) left this morning for three days of special services with the Tepehuan Indians. We rejoice that the Gospel is being presented and rejoiced in throughout this part of Mexico during this special time.

SPECIAL MINISTRY TRIPS.

Besides the normal work here in Durango with the church and the Bible School classes I have recently been invited to participate in ministry in other parts of the country and even other countries. In March I was in Costa Rica, Central America, to record six broadcasts for the “Focus on the Family” program (in Spanish) which is to be broadcast all over Latin America. (Can you imagine? Orchids grow wild all over the place in that country!) The end of April I am scheduled to speak at a womens’ conference in San Salvador, Central America. In May I have another invitation to speak at another womens’ conference in Monterrey, Mexico.

I praise God for these opportunities to minister to the needs of the women and families of Latin America.

MY DAD, EUGENE HOLDER, continues to battle with bad health. He celebrated his 90th birthday in March with some 100 members of his family and close friends but is in the hospital right now receiving yet another blood transfusion. Do remember him and my mother in prayer.

DURING THE LAST TWO YEARS OF HIS LIFE, FRANK was involved in writing a little book about the

women in the lineage of Christ, as well as several booklets on different Bible study subjects. The book about the women “The Winner’s Circle” has been released in both English and Spanish. The thesis of the book deals with the fact that so many of those women were from ‘questionable’ backgrounds—prostitutes, pagans, idolators, adulterers—yet, because of their faith and decision to be part of the followers of God, God put them in the “winner´s circle” by making them part of the lineage of Christ. Either of these books (English or Spanish) can be purchased through Casa Creacion,

or Strang Communications. Or, if you prefer they can be ordered through me at: nolawarren@aol.com. You can also write a letter asking for them to: Jeannie Theo, 20734 Deauville Dr., Spring, Texas, 77388. Jeannie is our daughter and she will be happy to take care of your requests.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your love, your prayers and your support. Certainly without

you help none of what we do here in Mexico would be possible. God has a great reward for all of you! May God bless you richly is our prayer.

In His Service,

Nola H. Warren

  1. Dear Nola!

I was so happy to recieve your newsletter and your blog is beautiful! I have a number of friends who have set up blogs and i'm working on my own as well. I just, this week, bought a new laptop and it can do all the neat stuff so i'm going to try and get my blog up and running. It's a real challenge for me to learn it. Except for taking a basic computer course years ago, i know very little about these fussy little machines. I just have to do lots of
guesswork and try to follow instructions..so far, so good. Hehe.

I love the pictures you put in with your letter and i'm going to be posting some of mine own very soon.

Wow! How wonderful that your Dad celebrated his 90th birthday! I'm sorry to hear about his health though and I will certainly be praying for him that God will give him healing and strength.

It's been a difficult journey for me with all my immediate family gone now..then Ed passing as well and grieving with my children. I'm so glad for the Hope i have in the Lord..i can't imagine not being able to look forward to seeing all of them again.

Once again i watched Shadowlands, the movie about the life of C.S. Lewis starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger. I found myself being both comforted and challenged concerning life and how to live it. So many profound statements were made by Lewis and his wife in this movie. One that really stays with me is this. "the pain now is part of the happiness, that's the deal." "we read to know we're not alone."

    With love,
    Karen
